Providence Journal, December 16, 2011, by Kate Bramson PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The board of directors for the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation is expected to vote Monday on creating a private-public partnership with the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce. Both entities would pay $250,000 in the first year to create a nonprofit entity that would hire a "chief business attraction officer" who would work to lure businesses to Rhode Island. EDC Executive Director Keith W. Stokes said the partnership would also include in-kind contributions from other organizations with similar missions -- the Rhode Island Commodores, the Providence Foundation and the city of Providence. The EDC, which is charged with creating and retaining jobs in the state, meets at 5 p.m. Monday at its headquarters, 315 Iron Horse Way, Suite 101, Providence.
